Dandelion Wallpaper, Taraxacum officinale
Check out these Dandelion wallpaper images we made for you!
This week we’re featuring Dandelion, Taraxacum officinale, the flower you can’t keep down!
Once a friend asked me “you’re an herbalist, how do i kill the Dandelions in my yard?” – and i said, you can’t. But you can eat them! Dandelion is famously just nearly impossible to kill, and can grow literally anywhere – including in the smallest crack in the pavement. In fact, Dandelion is so mighty that it can itself break through concrete – that’s some serious flower power!
How can the power of Dandelion help you?
Dandelion maintains the infrastructure that keeps your body going – especially your liver and kidneys, and through them, also your heart. Maybe that doesn’t sound too exciting – and these days, herbs that support emotional health or stress management are maybe more sought-after and trendy, but the bottom line is: if your “sewer system” and your “water treatment plant” aren’t running properly, nothing else is going to work right either!
Dandelion has one of the longest life spans of all plants – it’s one of the very first to come up in the spring, and one of the last to settle in for winter. It’s historically been an important vegetable plant – which means we were getting the medicine that we needed in every meal – but it fell by the wayside as vegetables in stores became more homogenous and mass-produced. These days it’s making a comeback though, and you can often find bundles of Dandelion leaves in the produce section, on the off-chance you don’t have any in your yard.
Dandelion is one of the most freely-giving plants too – each plant produces a plethora of seeds, so why not intentionally establish it in your yard? You don’t have to mow it, and you’ll have a steady crop of leafy greens for three quarters of the year! Just pick some flower heads that have gone to seed while you’re out and about, and bring them home to spread in your yard. Your neighbors might think you’re weedy, but you’ll never have to buy salad again 🙂
