Tulsi Wallpaper, Ocimum sanctum

Check out these Tulsi (Holy Basil) wallpaper images we made for you!

This week we’re featuring Tulsi, Ocimum sanctum, because managing stress is a huge factor in managing heart health – which has been our theme this month!

But even if stress and heart health weren’t on theme – holy cow, Tulsi would still be perfect because is it stressful out there right now, y’all!

The first thing i ever learned about Tulsi is that it “helps move stuck emotions”. Which sounds kinda vague, but also it does feel that way in the body, so i went with that for a while. Later i learned that part of the mechanism for that movement is coming from the way that Tulsi builds support for the hippocampus, which is the center in the brain where we process all the stuff that happens to us.

A lot of times when we’ve been through hard stuff, we do get stuck – we can’t really move past it. Part of the reason there is that when we’re super stressed, the body makes more cortisol (cortisol isn’t bad for you! but too much is too much), and high levels of cortisol slow down the function of the hippocampus. So it isn’t that it “feels like” we’re stuck in the stress-zone – we actually are! We have a big backlog of stuff to process, and the processing part of our brain is moving in slow motion.

There’s a lot more that Tulsi can do, but especially in these times, this is such a critical function. There’s literally SO. MUCH. to process. So much information coming into our brains every day, and so much of it negative and scary and stressful. I’m so glad there’s an herb that can help us wade through it all!
